Meet Dr. Acker

I have the best profession there is! I have always enjoyed working with people and gain great satisfaction from helping them to maintain their oral health. I enjoy the opportunity to educate them on the importance of good dental health and helping them attain just that!

Education and Experience
For my dental education, I first attained my Bachelor of Science degree from DePauw University in 1982. From there, I went on to Eastern Illinois University, where I received my MS in Zoology in 1984. I then went to Indiana University School of Dentistry, where I received my DDS in 1988. I have been practicing dentistry since July of 1988 and have enjoyed working in our current practice since March of 1997.

Continuing Education
I always attend as many courses as I can in various fields of dentistry. Attending various seminars in my field satisfies my appetite to learn new things, which I love, but my main goal is to keep up with the rapid changes taking place in dentistry. These may involve treatment methods, technologies or materials, and I always look for emerging developments that will benefit my patients.

As a part of my continuing education, I am an active member of the following professional associations:

  • American Dental Association (ADA)
  • Illinois State Dental Society (ISDS) as an Alternate Delegate from 2005 to 2009, and as a Delegate in 2010
  • St. Clair District Dental Society as a Peer Review Chairman from 2008 to 2010
  • National and Illinois State Licensed Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) since 1997

In the Office
I have surrounded myself with people who genuinely enjoy helping others. From my business office team members to my assistants and hygienists, we all really enjoy and like one another. You can hear our light-hearted laughter down the hall. It’s a great place to work! We strive to make each visit for our patients comfortable and positive.

Family Life
I am originally from Fort Wayne, IN, and now live in Millstadt. I have been married for 25 wonderful years! My wife and I have two children. Lauren is a junior at Boston University and Kyle is a freshman at Missouri Science and Technology. At home, we have two golden retrievers, four cats, and one ball python! In my spare time, I enjoy camping and hiking, especially in US National Parks, and firearm target shooting. Of course, I also love spending time in the company of friends and family!
